Things I Love

Slow Food

I was in Italy when the Slow Food movement was birthed at the foot of the Spanish Steps in Rome. It’s all about creating a world of GOOD, CLEAN, and FAIR food- “ a world in which all people can eat food that is good for them, good for the people who grow it and good for the planet. In essence, food that is good, clean and fair.”

Restaurants

After working in restaurants from an early age, traveling extensively, writing about restaurants for the past 15 years and working with chefs through the work I do with Slow Food, I have had the privilege of dining out more than many. There are a handful of restaurants that captivated my spirit in such a way that I want to scream their names from the rooftops and tell all my friends about them.

Without the producers and makers, none of it would be possible. From the farmers and butchers to the bakers and cheesemakers, we owe a debt of gratitude. Knowing where your food comes from is one of life’s great luxuries, but it should be accessible to all. From local markets to brick and mortars to the occasional online order, seek out those providing food with a story of its own.
